Please join Making a New United People, Inc. (M.A.N.U.P.) as we celebrate 9 years of impacting youth in the DMV and prepare for a significant expansion of our activities next year! The event includes live entertainment, complimentary food and drinks, and brief snapshot of what M.A.N.U.P. has in store for the upcoming fiscal year. Our first annual fundraising event is part of the organization’s campaign to fund the expansion of M.A.N.U.P. services to more youth throughout the DMV. It is made possible by our sponsors: PEPCO, CPDC, and Broccoli City. Our supports can RSVP by making a donation via Eventbrite. Every single dollar received will go toward the accomplishment of our key goals in FY18:
Expand Entrepreneurship & Job Readiness program: Our Entrepreneurship and Job Readiness approach launch year-round entrepreneurship & job readiness programming at all M.A.N.U.P. locations; the program includes resume development, interview preparation, business incubation, job placement, technical trainings, career counseling, and interactive workshops.
Open two (2) New Community Program Sites: expand youth development and recreational services to two new locations in Washington, D.C. Each location includes guest speakers & artists, critical thinking discussions, special events, and free meals for the youth that participate. In addition, we are adding case managers that will support our mentors to provide our mentors with the personal attention they need to navigate life.
Launch Change Agents campaign: The M.A.N.U.P. Change Agents Campaign is funding pool that M.A.N.U.P. used to provide stipends and guidance to youth that lead community impact initiatives. As youth attend M.A.N.U.P. sessions, we encourage them to think critically about their experiences and exercise the power to be a positive impact in their community. The goal is to provide youth with the opportunity and understanding that they can earn a living helping the community.
Coordinate 2017-18 events & Trips for Youth: M.A.N.U.P. uses events and trips to provide our youth with enriching, entertaining, cultural, and educational experiences. Examples of domestic events and trips include college tours, movies, camping trips, performances, community BBQ, etc. International trips will target countries with unique cultural and historical elements, such as Senegal or Cuba. Donors will be formally recognized as a sponsor for an event/trip of their choice; recognition includes logos on event/trip collateral, photo opportunities, inclusion on the M.A.N.U.P. website, as well as recognition through all relevant media outlets.
3rd Party Case Management Program: M.A.N.U.P. seeks to launch a comprehensive case management program that integrates with all of our programs with particular focus on the community based programs. The function of case management is to overcome the mismatch between the needs of the youth we serve and multitude of institutions they interact with. Our case managers will serve as mentors, life coaches, and advocates. The CMs coordinate M.A.N.U.P.’s services with the other systems (foster care, juvenile justice, law enforcement) the youth interact with to interrupt cycles of recidivism. As a result, we teach and empower the youth to capitalize on their.
Academic Support & Specialized Training: M.A.N.U.P. leverages a vast partnership network to ensure the youth we serve have access to the academic and technical support they need. The youth and young adults we serve require support navigating secondary and post-secondary school, as well as post-academic life. Our academic support and specialized trainings will help the youth we serve with critical services such as GED/ACT/SAT preparation, financial aid and scholarship search, study habits clinics, subject-based tutors, and more.
Upgrade and Renovate Existing Facilities: M.A.N.U.P. is looking to expand and renovate “Suite 5,” our community center located at Edgewood Commons apartments in Northeast Washington, D.C. The goal is to upgrade the space with modern technologies, purchase new games for youth recreation, fund youth-led community events, and purchase equipment for digital media trainings/projects.
We sincerely hope to see you on July 20th! We greatly appreciate your support and ask that you pass this on to other potential supporters, both individuals and organizations. With a fundraising goal of $250K by December 31st, every donation counts. If you are unable to attend but want to support the cause, please provide a personal donation of $50 or $100 (using the donation ticket link) to help M.A.N.U.P. achieve our larger goal of serving 1,000 youth in the DMV by 2020. Thank you for your support!
